This old saloon was built as Blackman's Dry Goods store in 1900. In 1910, it became a saloon. Since then, the place has changed owners, purposes and names several times, but "Oxford" has always been a consistent part of the name. During one of the more interesting periods at the Oxford Saloon, they remodeled and added several roms which were used as a high class bordello. Workers have in the past had quite frightening experiences with spirits of the old saloon girls who operated a brothel upstairs. The salloon was also the scene of violence on numerous occassions, one event involved a police officer named Henry that was stabbed and killed. Henry is still there it seems and spends some of his time on the stairs. He has also reportedly been seen in the ladies room and has a tendency to pinch the female patrons. Despite this, he is friendly and will vanish if confronted. Some of the other ghosts are less friendly and have told patrons to "get out" or "you'll die".
The Washington State Ghost Society has done several investigations of the saloon and captured some of the ghosts on film and their voices on EVP. Ask someone behind the bar about the ghosts here and they'll share their stories while you sip on a cold drink.
