On June 25, 1876, General George Armstrong Custer's 7th Cavalry engaged in a deadly battle with the warriors of the Lakota-Northern Cheyenne and Arapaho nations. The Battle of the Little Bighorn, also known as Custer's Last Stand, saw the 7th Calvary nearly wiped out in fields near Crow Agency, Montana.
Of the 700 men Custer led into battle, 268 were killed and another 55 wounded. Sitting Bull put the Native American losses at 36 dead and 168 wounded (Red Horse put the numbers at 136 dead and 160 wounded).

This battle saw tragedy on both sides and the spirits of Native American women have been seen searching the battlefield for dead loved ones. Some of those who lost their lives still wander the area trying to find answers, or long dead friends.
